Steve Starling

Steve Starling is Australia's most prolific and well-known fishing writer, but his expertise extends far beyond the shores of his island homeland. Steve (better known Down Under simply as ‘Starlo') has travelled the world in search of angling action, as well as to garner material for his many magazine features, columns, DVDs, television segments, books, and blogs.

A true multi-species angler, Starlo is as much at home casting tiny flies onto a trout stream narrow enough to jump across as he is trolling for marlin and tuna on the deep blue sea. His two greatest loves are fly fishing (he currently holds three IGFA Fly Rod World Records) and tweaking soft plastic lures for all manner of species in fresh and salt water. Steve is also a tackle designer and consultant for Shimano Australia and co-creator of the phenomenally successful range of Squidgies lures, jig heads and accessories.

Steve's trademark fishing philosophy is best epitomised by the word “finesse”: he firmly believes that anglers everywhere can significantly improve their day-to-day fishing results by using finer, lighter and more cunning tackle and employing sophisticated techniques. As he likes to put it: “Fish smarter, not harder!”
